Social Responsibility activity - Specialisterne workshop - Andorra Telecom

In addition to the effort Andorra Telecom makes to guarantee connectivity at our schools or emergency services and in providing radio and DTTV signal broadcasting, we also carry out a series of campaigns devoted to the community and individuals.

One of the pillars upholding this policy is digital education. This includes leading the development of ICTs and new educational tools, fostering the access to knowledge and promoting educational projects in the proper use and good practice on the Internet.

With this idea in mind, our collaboration with the Ministry of Education in the last few years has manifested itself in specific educational activities at schools on the responsible use of the Internet, and also the measurement of electromagnetic waves in the country in general and more specifically, in education centers.

Another area of activity focuses on our participation in social projects that ensure equal opportunities and rights for people with communication difficulties or disorders, such as those with Asperger’s Syndrome.

Andorra Telecom has put its resources to work in the dissemination of international emergency campaigns through its collaboration with the NGO platform and it has specific partnership agreements with UNICEF and the Nostra Senyora de Meritxell School.

Specialisterne Workshop

The work begun with special needs groups in terms of communication saw its first fruits.

the Julià Reig Foundation and Andorra Telecom held a seminar intended for health care and social service professionals: psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers and instructors from the specialised education centre of Escola Especialitzada Nostra Senyora de Meritxell . The workshop also saw the participation of organisations in the country that provide services to people with wide range of functions. The aim was to provide these professionals with tools to be able to detect people who have Asperger’s Syndrome and Autistic Spectrum Disorders.

The task performed by professionals and organizations must allow them to identify possible candidates for the Specialterne training programme. This Danish company trains people with autism and aids their incorporation to the job market, using their characteristics as a competitive advantage: highly developed logical and analytical skills, the capacity to concentrate for long periods of time, zero tolerance of errors or attention to detail.

The workshop, held at Andorra Telecom facilities, was led by the Training Director of Specialsterne, José Segundo, and attended by 60 sector professionals.

Charitable Campaigns

Andorra Telecom has a long history of collaborating with social causes. In the last few years, we have put our resources at the disposal of NGO platforms to raise funds or the awareness of charitable campaigns intended for humanitarian projects.

The latest of these actions was directed towards Syrian war refugees. Andorra Telecom did this by providing the 141 telephone number. All the money raised was sent to the platform in order to carry out the work on the ground. In addition to providing this number and devoting its own resources to the awareness campaign, it made the commitment to doubling the amount of funds raised.

The CEO of Andorra Telecom, Jordi Nadal, considers that the company cannot just stand by in the face of such emergency situations and must continue to provide support to campaigns in aid of third world countries. In this sense, he notes that the best way of lending a hand is providing the company’s resources in the support of national organizations who foster and do work in humanitarian initiatives.

Collaboration with Meritxell School

The partnership between Andorra Telecom and the Nostra Senyora de Meritxell Specialized School (EENSM in its Catalan initials) is bound by a framework agreement that was formalized between our CEO Jordi Nadal and the dean of the school board, Pilar Díez.

A partnership was made official through the signature of an accord whose main purpose was to strengthen the already close ties existing between the two organizations.

One facet of the partnership is to enhance the free-time activities of those who live either temporarily or permanently at the school’s Albó Residence. In this sense, we at Andorra Telecom, as sponsor of MoraBanc Andorra basketball team, give residents free tickets to all the home games for them to enjoy.
