EcoVadis rates Rail cargo’s CSR measures silver
Rail cargo take the responsibility seriously. Responsibility for people, for the community, and for the environment. Thus, we create value for generations.
The business model of one of the leading rail logistics companies is per se sustainable. Because the more goods that travel by rail, the greener it gets. But our responsibility goes one step further. Our actions, which are in harmony with the environment and society, have now been awarded EcoVadis CSR status silver.
Climate protection is one of the greatest global challenges for the coming decades. The transport market in Europe is expected to grow by 30%. Shifting traffic to rail is the most important lever for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. We live our responsibility by investing in safety, flexible rail logistics and a variety of other tasks that go beyond mobility. As an employer, we place our trust in employees who combine performance with passion. Much is being done to achieve this. We are not only one of the largest training companies, we also set standards in the area of training and further education as well as the promotion of talents and managers. We are thus investing not only in our young people but above all in the future and in an attractive employer. But we go one step further: We also select our business partners on the basis of criteria that not only support our corporate philosophy, but also set great store by the same values.
Measures that are noticeable
EcoVadis, an international rating platform that now assesses 50,000 companies in terms of corporate social responsibility, has awarded this responsible approach the status of “Silver”. The rating included issues relating to the environment, labor and human rights, corporate ethics and sustainable procurement. EcoVadis were particularly impressed with our newly developed TransANT platform wagon. The 20% lighter undercarriage enables more volume per transport with the same axle load. This means that fewer trains per year will be required for the same transport volume compared to standard wagons. This saves energy and thus reduces emissions. Also the conversion of our freight wagons to low-noise braking systems, with which we reduce noise emissions, was also convincing.
