On the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, held from September 13 to 27 in New York, Morocco jointly organized, on Saturday, a high-level meeting on transforming the educational system and sustainable development.

During this meeting, which was organized in partnership with Côte d’Ivoire and the UNESCO Institutes for Lifelong Learning, within the framework of the high-level “Transforming Education” summit (16-19 of this month), potential solutions and ways to transform education systems to achieve comprehensive sustainable development were highlighted.

Speaking on this occasion, the Minister of National Education, Primary Education and Sports, Chakib Benmoussa, stressed that public schools are at the heart of the new development model, which was adopted in 2021, under the high directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, highlighting that this model places the citizen at the heart of His development choices.

He pointed out, in this context, that Morocco’s ambition, by 2035, is to ensure that every individual is able to fully take charge of his future, realize his potential and live with dignity in an open, diverse, just and equitable society, noting that Morocco is considered a country that creates value and develops its potential in a sustainable, shared and responsible manner. .

Mr. Benmoussa explained, “Only a profound transformation in our educational system can allow our country to achieve development goals such as citizen prosperity, social cohesion, economic growth, and territorial integration,” noting that the main goals of enhancing quality and providing equal opportunities in school primarily include achieving compulsory education and improving the quality of learning.

He also noted that public schools must ensure that all children have access to the learning and skills needed to succeed in their academic and professional lives and improve their prosperity.

He said, “Public schools must be a place of prosperity that enables children to learn and take pride in the national and universal values ​​of citizenship, self-confidence, tolerance and peace.”

This high-level meeting was marked by the participation of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, chaired by Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa.

The Summit on Transforming Education, which is being held within the framework of the 77th United Nations General Assembly (13-27 of this month), is characterized by a high-level event that will bring together, on Monday, at least 90 leaders of countries and governments, ministers and other officials to discuss ways to ensure the transformation of education, to protect the future of education.
