Dangote Cement Plc Invests Over N4 Billion in CSR Projects in Ogun State
Dangote Cement Plc has invested over N4 billion in various Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives across 14 host communities in Yewa land, Ogun State, according to a statement by Mr. Francis Awowole-Browne, Media and Community Relations Manager of Dangote Industries Limited.
Significant CSR Contributions
“Since the inception of Dangote Cement in Ibese eight years ago, we have focused on projects such as road construction and repairs, building classroom blocks, and upgrading healthcare facilities. We have also provided boreholes and electricity transformers, among other initiatives,” the statement read.
The company detailed its contributions, which include:
- 40 classrooms
- Three health centers
- 22 boreholes
- Three transformers
These projects represent a total investment of N4.1 billion. Additionally, ongoing projects include:
- 18 classrooms
- Four roads
- One borehole
- One health center
- Five transformers
These ongoing efforts are valued at N278 million.
Commitment to Host Communities
Mr. Azad Nawabuddin, Plant Director of Dangote Cement, highlighted the company’s dedication to fostering peaceful relations with host communities.
“We are committed to providing training as part of our Host Community Youths Skills Acquisition and Empowerment Programme. Education and skills acquisition are powerful tools, and we prioritize these to ensure self-reliance among our communities,” he said.
Empowerment Initiatives
Dangote Cement has consistently invested in youth empowerment, including:
- Annual scholarship awards for 635 youths from local communities.
- Training of 20 youths at the Dangote Academy in Obajana.
- Launch of a rice outgrower programme in Ibese to promote youth employment, wealth creation, and food security.
The company also inaugurated a two-month acutherapy training programme for local youths, encouraging beneficiaries to utilize the skills as a means of livelihood and additional income.
Community Collaboration
While reiterating the company’s commitment to CSR projects, Nawabuddin urged the communities to maintain a peaceful environment, ensuring mutual growth and coexistence.
Government Acknowledgment
Dr. Oluwadare Kehinde, Ogun State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, commended Dangote Industries for its substantial contributions to social development.
“The state appreciates the efforts of Dangote Industries in creating shared value for residents regardless of tribe, religion, or political affiliation. It is evident that partnerships are essential for achieving good governance,” the commissioner stated.
