Bank of Maldives (BML) CSR initiative reached 100 islands in 2020
Bank of Maldives (BML) provided assistance to over 100 islands across the country through sponsorships and community development projects in 2020.
Sustainability reports of the bank reveal that these projects spanned various fields. Under the CSR initiative, BML remained committed to conducting such projects even during the 2020 pandemic.
Community Development Projects
- BML assisted 20 islands with projects worth MVR 1 million. These included the development of parks, school classrooms, gyms, nature parks, and solar-powered lighting systems.
- The bank provided PPEs to 10 hospitals nationwide.
- BML donated MVR 150,000 to the Cancer Society to raise breast cancer awareness.
- BML contributed MVR 200,000 to the aid program of ARC, which provided food packages to 587 children from 300 families.
- BML donated MVR 50,000 to the Family Legal Clinic and MVR 30,000 to the Deaf Association.
Educational Support
- BML facilitated arrangements for online classes at the computer lab of Kudakudhinge Hiyaa, donating equipment to upgrade the lab.
- The bank provided assistance to over 300 children with special educational needs in 10 schools.
Financial Services Expansion
- In the atolls, BML established self-service ATMs on nine islands and transformed ATM centers on five islands into self-service ATMs.
- The bank expanded its network of cash agents by introducing 200 new cash agents in various islands.
