Advocacy for Ecological Sustainability
Advocacy is crucial for maintaining conservation issues as a national priority. The conservation of nature is influenced by political and economic interests, and it all begins with political will.
Nature Kenya aims to raise public awareness about the importance of nature, encouraging a public demand for political leaders to make decisions that support sustainable natural resource management. Limited access to decision-making processes can lead to poor communities facing high pollution levels, being displaced from productive land, and losing the benefits provided by natural resources. People’s needs shape leadership goals, and politics should respond to these top priorities. Therefore, the value of nature must be integrated into key political responses.
We achieve our mission by:
- Contributing to national environmental policy and legislative processes
- Collaborating at national and international levels to advocate for the conservation of significant sites such as the Tana River Delta and Dakatcha Woodland
- Building the capacities of local communities to actively participate in and positively influence biodiversity conservation decisions
Nature Kenya has significantly contributed to national policy and legislation, including the Environmental Management and Co-ordination Act, the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan, the Forest Act and Forest Policy, and the draft Wetland Policy.
